Youth Groups

Our Senior High youth group is known as SPIN, for "Serving People In Need", as we do a lot more than typical church youth groups. We have developed programs that help provide essential cleaning supplies for families moving from a homeless shelter into their own homes, which has the long-term benefit of encouraging more landlords to rent to people leaving shelter! We raised the money to purchase cleaning supplies through our annual spaghetti dinner, and also invited families from the shelter to attend this meal, which often features live music, candle-light, and a wonderful salad bar. We have taken-on projects to help people in many different situations, but always using creative new approaches that work on several levels. SPIN also leads worship on Youth Sunday, which is developing a tradition for challenging the congregation to think more deeply about important issues in our society, and deepening our faith.

Our Middle School Youth program is changing for 2009/2010. Eighth grade and above meet in Confirmation Class on Sundays at 6:00p.m., and we may also meet as a Middle School group after worship from 11:30a.m. - 1:00pm We may be continuing an inter-generational group called, "Women Of God: Past, Present, & Future". Each month we will be studying one woman from the Bible, inviting one adult woman from the congregation who exemplifies similar traits to come & share her story, then eat a meal together, and have an activity or craft that builds on the theme from the Bible story. Those interested may also be doing a variety of activities, including working with men of the church to help members of the congregation make home repairs, and other service-related projects. We will also have some recreational activities, so the boys can give the men permission to play and experience the joys of being young & active!

We also support many other groups of children, youth & young adults who meet in our church. Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, Crew, Girl Scouts, and even an occasional 4-H group have held meetings at First Congregational. Pastor Tom helped start Friends of Chrystal, a group dedicated to suicide prevention, which holds monthly open meetings where young people can offer support for each other. We also have a website dedicated to the needs of our youth, as our groups are always changing, & this helps us keep up. To go to our site Click Here!

Some of Our Favorite Music

Well We are still deciding on what music we want to put on the site; our copyright lawyers will get back on this soon, we hope!
