First Congregational Church of Charlotte is committed to living out God's Good News in service to others. Whether it is volunteering at a local hospice, mentoring in an elementary school, or any number of other activities, our members keep finding opportunities to serve. The funny thing is, the more ways our members find to serve others, the more they find themselves rewarded!
A few of the ministries and missions we are involved in are: Kids Hope USA, Back Bay Mission, Church World Service CROP Walk, Heifer Project, Friends of Chrystal, Sacred Conversations about Racial Justice issues, Eaton County Hospice, and Real Life 101, Inter-Church Council, Helping Hands Food Pantry, SIREN Eaton Shelter, and the Eaton Clothing & Furniture Center. Another new mission opportunity that has been a blessing is our Prayer Shawl Ministry; we have an active & talented group who knit & crochet shawls & lap blankets for people who our congregation is praying for, and after the shawls are finished and consecrated in a worship service, they are given to the person as a tangible sign of our love & care for them. You may learn more by clicking here on Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Our Outreach Board sponsors five Special Offerings each year, which help raise funds for Our Church's Wider Mission, One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors In Need, The Christmas Fund, and Strengthen the Church, plus we also organize our annual "Congregational Cafe" on the church lawn after the Frontier Days Parade (2nd Saturday in September!) We also provide luncheons for families & friends after a funeral, if the family would like one. But the Outreach Board is only one of the centers of Mission Activity in our church; many of our members are very actively involved in living-out their faith by helping others through many programs in our community and across the country. We are a congregation that takes Christ's parable in Matthew 25 as a guide to how we all should live.
