Church is like a family, but we are far more than family. We must operate using sound business practices, but we are far more than just another corporation. We read the Bible, seeking to understand its historical context and its contemporary application, and we find that our stories and the Biblical stories intersect and interlace and interpret each other far more often than just Sunday morning's worship. We are a group of people with individual talents and skills and gifts, but when we get together we are far more than just a collection of people.
The joy of being a pastor is discovering again and again this "far more..." in the life of the community of faith. The mentors in our KidsHope USA program, the Sunday School teachers, the adult teachers involved in our Real Life 101 keep discovering this every week. And when they bring their excitement back to other groups in the church, we once again experience far more lives transformed than just those we help. We begin to see that those we seek to serve change us far more than we ever expected.
